Brush Set
A selection of stiff and soft brushes for reaching drum, chute and crevice surfaces.
Overview
Most roaster surfaces cannot be reached with a cloth. A set covering stiff wire bristles for baked-on carbon, mid-stiffness nylon for general cleaning, and a narrow crevice brush for chutes turns an hour of frustration into twenty minutes of routine work.
Using it well
- Match the brush to the surface. Wire for bare steel, nylon for anything coated.
- Clean the chute every session. It is the part most often skipped and most likely to clog.
- Keep cleaning brushes physically separate from any brush that touches coffee or food.
Wire brushes shed bristles. Inspect before use, keep away from food areas, and never use a wire brush on a coated drum surface where it could remove the coating.
Why this matters
The brush set sits in the cupping & cleaning stage of a roast. Getting it right removes one source of variation, which matters because roasting rewards consistency more than any single clever adjustment. Change one variable at a time, record what you did, and compare batches rather than judging any single roast in isolation.
If you are building a complete setup, start with the instruments that measure what is happening - a probe, a scale and a logger - before buying anything that promises a better result by itself. Measurement first, equipment second.
Educational content. Roast Lab does not sell this or any other product, and we do not accept payment for coverage. Specifications listed above describe typical ranges for the category rather than any specific model, and vary between manufacturers. Always follow the manufacturer instructions and safety documentation supplied with your equipment.
