Green Coffee Weight Calculator
Start from the roasted weight you want and work backwards. This calculator tells you how much green coffee to charge, how much weight the roast will lose, and how that scales across sample, standard and large batches.
- Weight lost in roast
- 75.0 g
- Green : roasted
- 1:1.167
- Roast level
- Medium
- Batch profile
- Standard home batch
Green weight = target roasted weight ÷ (1 − moisture loss ÷ 100)
Example: 450 / (1 - 0.16) = 525 g
Scaling the same profile
Keep the same loss percentage and these batch sizes will each hit your target ratio.
Typical moisture loss by roast level
| Light roast | 12 – 15% |
|---|---|
| Medium roast | 15 – 18% |
| Medium-dark | 18 – 20% |
| Dark roast | 20 – 24% |
Figures are typical ranges for drum roasters. Fluid-bed machines often run slightly higher because of their faster, more convective roast.
Weigh your green charge to the nearest 0.1 g and your roasted output the same way once the batch is fully cool. Divide the roasted weight by the green weight to get your actual yield, then compare that against the expectation above. A consistent gap between expected and actual is the fastest way to spot a green coffee lot that has drifted in storage.
