Bean Scoop
A wide, shallow scoop for moving green coffee from bag to hopper without spillage.
Overview
Small tool, real utility. A scoop sized for your hopper mouth moves green coffee cleanly and lets you portion a charge in a couple of passes instead of wrestling with a bag.
Using it well
- A scoop is a fast rough-portion tool, not a measuring device. Finish the charge on a scale.
- Store the scoop in the green coffee area, not near the roaster, to avoid heat damage and cross-contamination.
- Wipe before each use - residual oils from a previous lot can carry flavour between coffees.
Keep scoops dedicated to coffee. A scoop that has touched cleaning chemicals or non-food materials should not go back into a coffee bag.
Why this matters
The bean scoop sits in the charging stage of a roast. Getting it right removes one source of variation, which matters because roasting rewards consistency more than any single clever adjustment. Change one variable at a time, record what you did, and compare batches rather than judging any single roast in isolation.
If you are building a complete setup, start with the instruments that measure what is happening - a probe, a scale and a logger - before buying anything that promises a better result by itself. Measurement first, equipment second.

Specifications listed above describe typical ranges for the category rather than any specific model, and vary between manufacturers. Always follow the manufacturer instructions and safety documentation supplied with your equipment.
